The News

Eight Palestinians were killed at least in Israeli raids on the Gaza Strip, continuing to violate the ceasefire that came into effect a year ago. Palestinian government media reported that Mohammed Abdulaziz Al Najjar, a journalist, was killed in the attack. Al Najjar is now the sixty-sixth journalist killed by Israel since October 2023.

In a separate incident, six people were killed when an Israeli drone struck a taxi in the Tel Al-Hawa neighborhood in southwestern Gaza City. Eyewitnesses and medical sources stated that thirteen injured people were transported to Al-Quds Hospital by emergency services. Medical sources noted that the injuries of the victims were "severe," pointing to the difficulty of saving the lives of the wounded due to the destruction of the healthcare system in the Strip from Israeli attacks and the ongoing blockade.

Earlier, the Palestinian official news agency WAFA reported that an Israeli attack on a residential building near Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City killed at least one woman. Additionally, four Palestinians, including two children, were injured when a drone hit a shelter for the displaced in southern Gaza, and another two sustained severe injuries in an Israeli military attack east of the city of Deir Al-Balah.

Hind Khodari, Al Jazeera correspondent in Gaza, said the humanitarian situation in the Strip is "horrible," adding that "everyone inside the Strip fears going to the supermarket or taking their children to school or living their daily lives." According to the Gaza Health Ministry, the death toll since the start of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas stands at 1,431 people, while 5,026 people were injured, including 31 in the last 24 hours.

UN reports indicate that Israeli attacks have destroyed nearly eight percent of buildings in the Strip since the ceasefire began, exacerbating the suffering of Palestinians.

Analysis & Context

Analytically, the continued Israeli attacks on Gaza are increasing political and humanitarian tensions in the region. Reports indicate that Israeli attacks have led to the destruction of many buildings and infrastructure in Gaza, exacerbating the suffering of the population. In a broader context, the conflict between Israel and Hamas continues to impact the humanitarian situation in Gaza, where residents suffer from a lack of basic services and healthcare. This situation highlights the need for long-term political solutions to ensure peace and stability in the region.
