The News

Global financial markets rose on Tuesday as investors continued to bet on the promising outlook for major technology companies leading the artificial intelligence revolution. All major U.S. indices recorded gains, led by the Nasdaq, which is focused on the technology sector and climbed 1.18 percent.

In terms of individual stock performance, five out of seven major technology stocks rose, led by Tesla, whose value increased by 4.04 percent. Amazon posted gains of 1.61 percent, while Apple and Google rose by 0.93 and 0.9 percent, respectively. NVIDIA, the world's most valuable company, also gained nearly 1 percent after announcing a $3 billion investment in Meta's stock offering, while Meta fell 1.64 percent and Microsoft dropped 0.24 percent.

The rally extended to Asia-Pacific markets on Wednesday, where gains at Korea's Kospi led regional increases with a 5.84 percent rise. This followed SK Hynix's announcement of record third-quarter results that boosted its operating profits by 630 percent year-on-year. These results pushed the South Korean company's listed shares up more than 8 percent, while Tokyo's Nikkei 225 index rose 1.26 percent and Taiwan's index gained 1.32 percent.

Investors are now assessing whether massive investments in artificial intelligence will yield returns or lead to a financial bubble similar to the one preceding the dot-com crash of 2000. This concern is heightened by Gartner's forecast that global investment in this field could reach $2.7 trillion in 2026 and $3.6 trillion in 2027.

In parallel, oil prices rose 1 percent at the opening of Asian markets on Wednesday amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which began with the Israeli-American war against Iran. Global Brent crude contracts traded near $115 per barrel, a level representing a significant increase compared to pre-war prices. Meanwhile, fighting between Saudi Arabia and Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen continues to affect the region.

Analysis & Context

From an analytical perspective, this synchronized rise in global markets reflects sustained investor confidence in the technology sector despite concerns about the potential formation of a financial bubble akin to the one before the dot-com crash of 2000. The figures show that investors still see value in the massive infrastructure being invested by tech companies in artificial intelligence, prompting Gartner to predict that global investment in this field will reach $2.7 trillion in 2026.

In a broader context, the importance of results from companies like SK Hynix stands out as evidence of the strength of the semiconductor sector, which is considered the backbone of artificial intelligence. The announcement of the company's record profits pushed its shares up more than 8 percent, confirming that the performance of technology markets is closely linked to the financial performance of leading companies in the chip and memory industries.

This scene also highlights geopolitical complexities that affect even energy prices and global financial markets. While investors attempt to evaluate returns on their massive investments in artificial intelligence, military tensions in the Middle East remain a source of instability affecting oil prices and global liquidity.

Additionally, the announcement by major artificial intelligence company Anthropic about releasing its paper next year while recording a massive net loss serves as another example of radical shifts in the financial technology landscape, where large startups strive to reinvent themselves within this fast-changing market.
