The News

Israeli forces launched three rockets on the Manatara Dam area in Syria's Quneitra province on Wednesday, according to Syrian media. Alekhbaria Syrian TV channel reported that the shelling targeted the area surrounding the dam in central Quneitra. No casualties or damage have been reported so far.

This attack came a day after Israeli forces raided rural areas in Quneitra, where they attacked shepherds, including minors. President Ahmad Al-Shara, who delivered a speech at the 80th and first session of the UN General Assembly, stated that these attacks are part of Israel's ongoing violations of Syrian sovereignty.

Al-Shara noted that Israel has carried out around 500 air strikes and artillery shelling, more than 1,200 incursions, and nearly 300 arrests and detentions since late 2024. Al-Shara rejected attempts to impose a new reality and reaffirmed Syria's commitment to the agreement signed in 1974, calling on Israel to withdraw to the positions it held before December 8, 2024.

Analysis & Context

Analytically, this attack reflects the rising tensions between Israel and Syria in recent years. Israel continues to carry out military operations inside Syrian territory, including air strikes and shelling, in an effort to strengthen its control over the region.

In a broader context, this tension highlights the ongoing challenges Syria faces in maintaining its sovereignty and enforcing previous peace agreements. Syria aims to strike a balance between regional and international alliances and addressing Israeli threats.

It is also noteworthy that these attacks come amid increasing regional tensions, where all parties are seeking to advance their interests in the area.
